WA government to kill Perth freight link

 Western Australia's government will block future construction of the Perth Freight Link despite $1.2 billion in federal funding remaining on the table.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti will on Wednesday introduce legislation rezoning the Beeliar Wetlands to stop future road development.

It will effectively kill off the controversial Roe 8 and 9 project, which was first proposed by the former WA Liberal government in 2014 and would have cut through a large portion of the environmentally significant wetlands on the way to Fremantle Harbour.

Cannon-Brookes looking to thwart AGL’s demerger plans after buying stake in energy company

 Australian tech billionaire and Atlassian co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes has officially become the largest shareholder in energy giant AGL (ASX: AGL), as he launches plans to throw water on the company’s proposed demerger. Cannon-Brookes, via his investment vehicle Grok Ventures, now holds an 11 per cent interest in AGL, whose board is looking to split the group into two companies - something the entrepreneur believes would “deliver a terrible outcome for shareholders, customers, Australian taxpayers and the planet”. The Grok Ventures founder is urging other AGL shareholders to vote against the proposed demerger, and is putting pressure on the company to transition to clean energy. Final say on Crown Perth oversight stays with government despite scathing royal commission

 Western Australia's gaming minister has defended not setting up a dedicated group to advise on who oversees the state's only casino, as he presented the government's official response to last year's scathing royal commission into the organisation and its regulators and flagged a complete overhaul of gambling laws. The Perth Casino Royal Commission, which reported to government in March last year, found Crown Resorts was unfit to hold a gaming licence in WA.  It identified failures by government departments and regulators that it said in turn allowed money laundering to continue without question, and raised concerns about allowing junkets with links to criminals to operate at the casino.
